KINDERGARTNERS AND K-KNIGHTS (YOUNG 5S)
Whether this is your first or last child attending kindergarten, this year will be a milestone for your family. We are confident you will find that Kenowa Hills Public Schools is an outstanding learning community that takes tremendous pride in our students, parents, and the responsibilities we have as educators in preparing the youth for the future. Our dedication to Personal Mastery starts with our youngest learners.
K-Knights (also known as Young 5s) is a tuition-free program designed to teach skills that students need to start kindergarten and is open (but not limited) to children whose 5th birthday falls between June and September 1st. It may also be a good fit for those children who have no preschool experience. Your child will experience a fun, creative, encouraging, child-centered environment while learning to work both independently and collaboratively. Kindergarten skills and behavior are emphasized while students are given the support they need to find success at their level of learning and development. To see if this program would be a good fit for your child, please attend one of the events above at your home school.
Kindergarten and Young 5s are offered at all three of our elementary buildings. Be sure to join us at an upcoming Family Tour event where you can tour the school, meet the teachers and principals, and ask questions! Click here for additional Kindergarten and K-Knight information.
CURRENT K-KNIGHT STUDENTS as well as preschoolers attending Kenowa Hills tuition-based preschool do not need to register in gateway again. Kenowa Hills tuition-based preschool students should provide an updated immunization record and health appraisal to their school's main office.
GSRP (Great Start Readiness Preschool) and Daycare students who are Kenowa Hills residents: Follow steps 1-4 above. Families who live outside the boundaries of Kenowa Hills will need to apply for Schools of Choice to attend Kindergarten at Kenowa Hills.
ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education) students currently enrolled will not need to register online again. Simply provide an updated immunization and health appraisal to the school office.
Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2022, to enroll in kindergarten or K-Knights for the 2022-23 school year. The K-Knights program is for students who are not quite ready for kindergarten but meet the age requirement. K-Knights attend all-day-everyday Monday through Friday.
Schools of Choice
If you reside outside of the Kenowa Hills boundaries, you are welcome to attend orientation at one of our elementary schools. This does not guarantee your child a Schools of Choice spot in kindergarten. The Schools of Choice window will open in April and close in May. More information on how and when to apply is available on our Schools of Choice Page.

At Kenowa Hills, it’s personal
We believe in education inspired by the individual learner. The experience for students at Kenowa Hills is nothing like a classroom where each student sits for the same amount of time learning the curriculum in the same way. It’s all about instruction that engages individual students to master, retain, and apply the needed curriculum for a successful future. We call it Personal Mastery and it’s the most personalized educational experience available for your child.
Safe and encouraging environments
Every day at Kenowa Hills is a day when children feel loved, safe, and encouraged. Academic success comes when students are cared for and truly believe their learning is important. Students are taught at the youngest level that no dream is too big – for each and every Knight the sky is the limit. Learning is fostered through safe and encouraging classroom environments, where collaboration, cooperation, and leadership are encouraged, and ownership of academic success is promoted.
Academics that inspire
At Kenowa Hills, academic standards are high, and parents can be assured students have the opportunity to shine in the areas of fine arts, athletics, and specialized college and career preparedness programs. Innovative programs, such as The Knights STEM Academy, offer both middle school and high school students a one-of-a-kind experience that is hands-on and engaging. In addition to leading the county in STEM education, Kenowa Hills students have access to Advanced Placement classes and the opportunity to attend Middle College where they can graduate with an associate's degree in business, technology, or health from Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), all tuition-free.
Our Personal Mastery educational experience has redefined education and has gained attention around the state and nation. Personal Mastery provides your child with personalized attention from teachers. Instead of teaching to a broad group of students without understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses, Personal Mastery allows teachers to interact with students individually or in small groups to help them better address their weaknesses. In this way, we strive to help your child reach their full potential.PERSONAL MASTERY SPECIAL EDUCATION ENGLISH LEARNERS TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM
